The Shimano SLX M663 long cage Shadow rear derailleur is part of Shimano’s 10-speed Dyna-Sys group. The new design has a longer cage to reduce overall tension on the system and allow the use of the 36T on the cassette. By reducing the tension of the chain, Shimano’s Dyna-Sys drivetrains shift precisely and ultra-smoothly, without much effort. Shimano has always been famous for light-action shifting and the Dyna-Sys groups make good on that history. Both the guide and tension pulleys run on sealed bearings. The shadow design has also been reworked to reduce friction on the cable, allowing for quick easy shifts. The SLX M663 rear derailleur is not compatible with 9-speed systems and uses more steel than its XT brother to keep the costs down.
