The Crank Brothers Egg Beater 2 pedal looks the same and works the same way of old . It still features its signature minimalist body, benchmark mud clearance and fast entry, but the axle, bearings and body are all new! The Crank Brothers Egg Beater 2 is made from cast stainless steel for durability and at only 272g! The part stainless part chromoly steel construction which is used for durability and a zero-maintenance bearing system sets the Crank Brothers Egg Beater 2 pedal apart from other pedals.
Just like the original Crank Brothers Egg Beater clipless pedal, the Crank Brothers Egg Beater 2 clipless pedal gives you 6 degrees of rotational float and the Crank Brothers cleat have between 15 and 20 degrees of float and all come with cleats specific to the two-bolt pattern characteristic of most mountain bike shoes and for all you rodies who want to use them with road shoes, you’ll need to buy a set of Crank Brothers Road Cleats.

Rock-solid, simple and reliable
MattB, Canberra I've used Crank Bros pedals on both my mtb and roadie for about 18 months; previously used spds (M520). The eggbeaters are great, simple entry and exit but very secure (I've pulled out of the spds in a sprint). The mechanism is much simpler than other (over-engineered) MTB pedals and works reliably in all conditions (including mud) I've given my eggbeaters a few solid whacks on rocks etc without anything more than slight cosmetic scrapes to the springs - these things are tough!
The cleats supplied with eggbeaters have no lateral adjustment - but the wider cleats for the candy pedals can be used instead. The float is non-centring which takes some getting used to but is far better IMO. The cleat/shoe interface is typically small being a MTB pedal, so quality shoes with stiff soles are a good idea if riding XC or road.
