CONTINENTAL GP 4000S Road Tyre - 700 x 23c
Excellent Puncture Protection Properties
The same construction as the GP4000 but with a new BlackChili special compound. The S stands for sport, special, and schwarz - the german term for black.
The all black Grand Prix 4000 S catches the eye with its big silver labels. It matches every high-end race bike perfectly and can do more than just look good.
With the new Black Chili Compound rolling resistance is reduced by 26%, grip is increased by 30% and mileage is increased by 5%.
The new compound: The carbon filler particles within the rubber compound are reduced to 1/10th of the size of standard carbon particles. This creates a closer knit with the particles having more points of contact with each other, thus forming a tighter bond, (increasing mileage performance) and also with the road (increasing grip). Also the way in which the particles interact with each other has a dramatic effect on reducing rolling resistance. Black Chili has been used by several ProTour teams since 2007.
Vectran anti puncture protection: The all new Vectran breaker belt, developed and patented by Continental, surpasses even the famous puncture resistance of the former leader in this category, the GP3000. The extremely strong Vectran fabrics are more flexible and lighter than all other puncture protection materials. Vectran offers more resistance to cuts than Aramid, is five times as strong as steel and features less weight than a nylon double breaker. It also maintains strength in the wet.
Features:
- New Black Chili compound
- Black Chili gives a lower rolling resistance and higher grip
- An ideal secret weapon for the season's main objective
- Vectran anti-puncture technology, tougher than aramid
- Striking silver sidewall logo

Great for puncture resist but decent speed
AWalker, SINNAMON PARK
I've tried a lot of tyres (kenda, rubino) looking for a good balance between puncture resistance and speed (mostly commuting use). These are by far the best. Will still get the odd puncture if you hit something big but generally tough. For the price on Sale, great value.

Buy These Tyres
GregSampson, KILLARNEY HEIGHTS
These are the best tyres I have ridden on, hands down. I have had various Vittoria, Michelin and cheaper Contis, nothing comes close. Smooth, Quiet, fast and handle great. Buy them you will not be disappointed.

two thumbs
PaulGuest, Newtown
Even at full price these'd be 5 star material -- but you don't have to wait too long before they're on special round here! Still fresh after a couple of months of 'performance commuting'. I'll be getting more.

The best tyres ever
ColinM, Wellington
If you want fast reliable and light tyres buy these. Perfect for race day or even for the commute to work. Hard to put on at first but they soon loosen up and you can remove them by hand without any need for a tool

Hot tyres, sharp price.
imakkaof, Tauranga
Fastest grippiest tyres I've used so far. Top value for the special price.
Not bullet proof on the city streets however. Had a few punctures before they were worn. Save them for race day!
Be good to see some Gator Skins on T7!

Wicked tyres, I just don't race on anything else now. Really fast, excellent handling, and I've never had a puncture on them before they get worn.

Awesome
PaulDavison, EAST VICTORIA PARK
I bought another set of tyres a month earlier (from LBS) and they were very hard to roll.
Changed to the Conti's and what a difference. Quicker smoother quieter.
Can be difficult to fit but only on the last 200mm and had to use a small lever.
Well worth the money even at full price.

CONTINENTAL GP 4000S Road Tyre - 700 x 23c
KevinHunt, Heathcote
Great tyre. Used them for first time on wet hilly ride, after months of dry weather riding, I did not back off on any corners and did not get fazed. I felt like they rode well over coarse chip roading and seemed to be less bumpy over poor road surfaces. Were very smooth over flat ashphalt. They were easy to install (ie no more difficult than other tyres I have installed). My only concern is that both tyres I purchased have two small round indentations close together near the centre line of the tyre. Not sure if these are supposed to be part of manufacturing process. Can not see the point of them! Would have received a 5 star rating except for this. Will be saving these for races.

Great tyyres
NigelWilson, Rangiora
The first day riding to work I cut 2 minutes off my best time (25km ride), but the tail wind was the biggest contributor. Since then however my times have been consistently less so am very happy with the performance of these tyres. Have had 2 punctures (pinching after riding over rocks) and they have been fine in terms of changing tubes - not too hard to get off the rim.

CONTINENTAL GP 4000S Road Tyre
DarrenCole, Whenuapai
I am on my second set of these tyres now from torpedo7, these tyres are a race compound and do not last forever, I did however manage to get around 3000-4000km's out of my first set before the wear indicator went on the rear, front tyre is still going strong, Puncture resisitance is good with only 3 flats during that period, all due to glass shards that I believe would have still made it through the gatorskins I run on my training bike. At the end of the tyres servicable life (wear indicators gone) the tyre shows numerous 'pin cushion' holes, leading me to believe the much hyped continental vectran layer really does work. These really are a race tyre that can handle training abuse, I trust these tyres in racing to not let me down, I can't say the same for michelins equivalent. These tyres are easy to mount, despite what has been said, they feature a folding bead not a wire bead which makes things easier and reduces weight, I can fit them to my american classic 420 rims without resorting to levers and am yet to pinch a tube in the process, I do acknoledge that all rims are different, and if these tyres a problem then a lot of other tyres will be nightmares.
On top of that these tyres are light, they roll incredibly fast even for race tyres, and at the price torpedo7 has them at they are cheap.
Would not race on anything else!

Puncture Proof!!
NickSharpley, St Marys
For years I've been suffering regular punctures, perhaps 1 in every 3 rides ... until I bought a set of these babies! In the 9 months since I bought them ... NOT ONE PUNCTURE! I'll say that again ... NOT ONE PUNCTURE with these tyres ... !!
