Ghost Design and Technology
Ghost engineers develop and design bikes that set industry leading trends at their headquarters in Waldsassen, Germany. Accurate planning in the utmost detail is part of their daily routine. After the concepts of the bike frames are completed using the most advances CAD programmes available; the first prototypes can be produced then examined following a demanding fatigue and torsional strength. If prototypes successfully meet their QC standards at this point of development they can then go forward for further testing on regional trails for demanding rider testing.
Since completing his degree in ‘Industrial Design’ in 2002, Ghost’s Bastiaan Thijs has been responsible for the design and engineering of the Ghost bikes. Each year Ghost sets new standards using attractive varnishing and numerous fine details to document the affiliation to the Ghost family and make their bikes popular design objects – and not only with the high end models.
Since the company was founded in 1993, Ghost has had a single goal; to build bikes that set new standards over and over again. They are driven to create bikes that meet the highest demands: fine tune the minutest detail, equipped with the most innovative technology, robust and an unrivalled fair value for money.
Since the early days, they have lived for this philosophy without compromise. The drive to always be a touch better has not changed, even though their small back-yard shop in Waldsassen, North Bavaria has long become a global player with branches in numerous countries in Europe and overseas.
Despite rapidly changing technology and all the latest innovations Ghost has not lost what matters most: A love for cycling and bicycles and a focus on the fundamentals. Therefore it makes perfect sense that they not only test their bikes in laboratories, but also put to the acid test on the local trails in Waldsassen and incorporate the valuable know-how and experience of their world-class team riders into their bikes. “Our customers needs take centre stage and only when we are completely satisfied do we know that our customers will be as well”.
Ghost mountain bikes
Ghost has taken a completely different direction in mountain bike development with its Specific Chain-stay Length (SCL) technology. With SCL, the chain-stay length increases according to the respective frame size. As a principle the ratio between chain-stay length and wheelbase always remains constant. The noticeable advantage; perfectly balanced riding performance – irrelevant to the frame or riders size.
Suspension designers from Ghost have been working along side FOX Racing Shox, and X-Fusion to create rear shocks specific to Ghosts needs.
Ghost engineers started out with the X-Fusion 02 PVA shock and took it a step further. The new shock features an open position with super sensitive suspension characteristics designed for descending, and two adjustable platform settings; A traction mode for terrain combines optimum traction with maximum ground contact and wheel grip. The efficient and “intelligent” Lockout mode is perfect for steep climbs, dirt roads or levelled roads. This mode eliminates all torque impacts, but due to its blow-off function it is able to dampen all hard, unexpected hits and instantly goes back to the stiff setting. Naturally the system is tuned to the bikes kinematics in order to achieve perfect harmony between the front and the rear shock and thus guarantees the best possible rear suspension.
In cooperation with the FOX Company, Ghost has improved the FOX RP 32 rear shock yet again and fine tuned it to the rears of their full suspension frames. The results are perfect suspension elements which are finer tuned to Ghosts’ kinetics than ever before. The FOX shocks also feature a platform system which is adjustable externally according to your requirements and preference.
Ghost Women’s design
Ghost knows what women desire - a bold statement you might say, but that is how the designers came up with the "Miss" range of bikes. Mountain bikes tailor made for women and designed with attention to every detail, utilizing top-of-the-line equipment and modified for women's needs. Prestigious women's bikes with MSC (Miss Style Concept) technology.
Miss Style Concept in detail: A shorter and angled top tube providing more comfort and increasing stand-over height, a comfortable women's saddle, sturdy brakes, sensitive suspension components, perfectly tuned crank length and an ergonomic handlebar. Great eye catching looks make them really stand out from the crowd. The MSC frames also include Ghost's Specific Chain stay Length (SCL) technology.
Ghost Road bikes
Stylish, fast and comfortable - Ghost builds racing bikes which satisfy even the highest demands. With their top of the line equipment they cut a great line on any road. Each year they have improved geometry on all of their road bikes with the extremely light 7005 T6 multi butted frames featuring SCL (Specific Chain stay Length) technology and the Ultimate racing Geometry Evolution (URGE) creating the perfect compromise between weight, stiffness and comfort. The sloping geometry increases the torsional strength and makes the bike lighter and more agile.
